• The dollar languished at its lows for the year on Thursday as a drumbeat of hawkish comments from major central banks signaled the era of easy money might be coming to an end for more than just the United States.

Support for the dollar eroded as investors realized the U.S. Federal Reserve might not be the only game in town when it came to higher interest rates.

• In Britain, Bank of England Governor Mark Carney surprised many by conceding a hike was likely to be needed as the economy came closer to running at full capacity.

• The Bank of Canada went further, with two top policymakers suggesting they might tighten as early as July.

• That followed comments earlier in the week from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi that stimulus might need to be toned down so it does not become more accommodative as the economy recovers.

ECB sources tried to hose down the talk but could not stop the euro hitting a one-year high against the U.S. dollar. Early Thursday, the single currency was taking in the view at $1.1381 having climbed almost three percent in as many sessions.

• By contrast, Bank of Japan policy members believed their best approach would be maintaining their current ultra-loose policy, with inflation well shy of their 2 percent target, according to a summary of the BOJ's latest meeting released on Monday.

The divergent monetary policy outlooks helped bolster the dollar against the yen, but it still edged down 0.1 percent to 112.28 JPY= after rising as high as 112.495 earlier in the session, its highest since May 17.

• Despite a major setback in the U.S. Senate, President Trump said on Wednesday that the Republican healthcare bill was moving along well and predicted a "surprise" was yet to come.

"We're going to have a great, great surprise," he said.

• U.S. President Donald Trump will press South Korean President Moon Jae-in to improve trade imbalances with the United States during meetings at the White House on Thursday and Friday, a White House official said.

In an interview with Reuters in April, Trump called the five-year-old U.S.-South Korean trade pact known as KORUS "horrible" and "unacceptable" and said he would either renegotiate or terminate it.

• China is open to negotiating a free-trade agreement with Mexico, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday, citing the Chinese ambassador to the country, a fillip for Mexico as it faces uncertainty over its trade deals with the United States.

Qiu Xiaoqi, China's ambassador to Mexico, said China was willing to discuss a free-trade agreement, although no discussions had been held so far, Xinhua said. Qiu was speaking at an academic event in Mexico City.

• Crude oil futures rose for a sixth consecutive session on Thursday, as a decline in U.S. production underpinned the market that has been under pressure from a global supply glut.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude CLc1 rose 7 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $44.81 per barrel by 0003 GMT, while the benchmark Brent futures LCOc1 gained 8 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $47.39 a barrel.

WTI climbed to $44.90 a barrel, matching Wednesday's peak price which was highest since June 19.

• The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said crude stocks rose 118,000 barrels last week, while weekly production declined 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 9.3 million bpd. That was the biggest decline in weekly output since July 2016.
